Hi, I'm Dave Bycraft; 43 year old Detroiter now inhabiting the High Peak these 12 years or so. I'm grateful to you for coming to my online gallery. I am in the beginnings of sorting an Etsy shop, please bear with me I promise it will be up soon! Meanwhile if you're interested in something you see here, drop me a message on the Contact page :)
I started woodturning in 2022. I was having some hard times, and I felt like I needed to connect with the real world, and with nature, much more. I had built a shed, and I knew I wanted to make things with my hands, then I spotted an old Record Power lathe on (Popular social media platform marketplace) being sold for a song, and I bit the guys hand off for it. I found that as I got the hang of it, it was starting to give me more than I had anticipated (which was just a few shoddy bowls maybe). I found the act of creating something from a raw material was deeply satisfying. This new outlet helped me see myself clearer as well. I don't know where this journey will take me next just yet, but I'm working on it, and on myself. Whatever happens, I have found making these little objects of intrigue only brings me happiness. I've not hurt myself or anyone else, so I suppose I'll keep on turning.
